Koel Sen
I am a Mumbai based filmmaker and multi-media artist. I finished my training at the Film and Television
Institute of India (FTII) and La Fémis, Paris in 2016. Apart from usung analog film, video and digital media I like to work with Resolume Arena, Touch Designer
aided by MIDI controllers. Till now I have mostly performed with live musicians & sound artists. I use single and multiple screen projections. I project
content which is a mix of archival and self-shot footage with intricate geometrical patterns and
shapes, all manipulated live and in real time via MIDI.
As an artist my approach is very intuitive, where I design my work based on certain parameters. Sometimes the work grows into something completely new and different, totally unexpected. I enjoy these nuances that occur in my art through algorithmic processes.
In the last year 2019, I have been part of a panel on the new trends in visual technology at the Disrupt Music &
Arts Festival in 2019. I have also worked with the live visuals team at the Magnetic Fields
International Music & Arts Festival and performed across all their venues and projecting my
vision by mapping on the architecture of the Alsisar palace in Rajasthan. I am a part of
Todh-Machines, a unique collaboration between Berlin based synth artist Todh Teri and Mumbai
based United Machines. I have also performed live video for Reproduce Listening-Room
Sessions (an alternate art & music space) in Bombay and Kolkata. I regularly perform at
club spaces across the country. I am also associated with multiple organisations working
to promote the roles of women in the electronic music landscape in India.
